Venus Signs and Love: What Yours Says About You
Venus is the planet of attraction and value — what you find appealing, how you express affection, and what makes you feel loved when someone else does it to you. In relationship astrology it does more work than the Sun.
Because Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, it sits in your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side. That narrow range is also why so many people feel their Sun sign is nearly right but slightly off — the difference is frequently Venus.

What Venus governs
Three things, and separating them helps.
What you are drawn to. Not a checklist of traits, but the quality that registers as attractive before you have decided anything.
How you show affection. Venus describes your native language of care — whether that is words, time, physical presence, practical help or gifts.
What you value. Venus also rules money, taste and beauty, on the principle that what you find lovely and what you find worth paying for come from the same place.
The mismatch between the first two causes most ordinary relationship friction. People give the kind of love their own Venus wants, and then cannot understand why it did not land.
Venus through the twelve signs
Venus in Aries loves directly and fast. It is attracted to confidence and enjoys pursuit — the chase is part of the appeal, not an obstacle to it. Shows affection through enthusiasm and initiative. Loses interest when things become too settled too quickly.
Venus in Taurus loves through the senses and through steadiness. Attracted to calm, physical presence and reliability. Shows affection by feeding you, sitting with you, and being there without commentary. Slow to start and extremely slow to leave.
Venus in Gemini loves through conversation. Attracted to wit and mental quickness; genuinely cannot sustain interest without it. Shows affection by talking, sending things, staying curious about you. Needs variety and reads possessiveness as a cage.
Venus in Cancer loves protectively. Attracted to emotional safety and to people who need something it can give. Shows affection through care, feeding and remembering. Slow to open, and once open, deeply attached.
Venus in Leo loves generously and visibly. Attracted to warmth and to people who are unmistakably themselves. Shows affection extravagantly and wants it returned in kind — this Venus needs to be told, not merely shown.
Venus in Virgo loves usefully. Attracted to competence and to people who have their life in order. Shows affection by doing things: fixing, organising, noticing what you needed. Undemonstrative, and often reads as less invested than it is.
Venus in Libra loves through partnership itself. Attracted to charm, courtesy and aesthetic sense. Shows affection through attention, fairness and making things pleasant. Struggles to raise problems, which stores them up.
Venus in Scorpio loves totally or not at all. Attracted to depth, privacy and intensity; finds casual connection pointless. Shows affection through complete loyalty and complete focus. Jealousy is a real risk, and so is testing.
Venus in Sagittarius loves as an adventure. Attracted to independence, humour and people from elsewhere. Shows affection by including you in what it is doing. Needs freedom explicitly, and will leave rather than negotiate a cage.
Venus in Capricorn loves seriously. Attracted to competence, ambition and self-possession. Shows affection through commitment and provision rather than words. Slow, undemonstrative, and unusually durable — this Venus is playing a long game.
Venus in Aquarius loves as friendship first. Attracted to originality and to people who do not need managing. Shows affection through loyalty and intellectual companionship. Needs space, and reads emotional demands as pressure.
Venus in Pisces loves boundlessly. Attracted to sensitivity, artistry and people who need rescuing — which is both its beauty and its trap. Shows affection by merging completely. Prone to idealising, and to loving the version of someone that exists only in its own imagination.
Venus and Mars together
Venus describes how you love; Mars describes how you pursue. Reading them together is more informative than either alone.
When both sit in compatible signs, wanting and expressing line up. A Venus in Taurus with Mars in Virgo pursues steadily and loves steadily, and the two halves agree.
When they conflict, the person often confuses others and themselves. Venus in Cancer with Mars in Aries wants deep emotional security and pursues it with blunt impatience — the approach contradicts the need, and the pattern usually only resolves once it is noticed.
In comparing two charts, contacts between one person’s Venus and the other’s Mars are the classic marker of chemistry, and they frequently appear between people whose Sun signs a compatibility grid scores badly.
Venus by house
The sign says how you love; the house says where love shows up.
Venus in the first is visible charm — the attractiveness is part of the first impression. In the second, love and material security are entangled. In the fifth, romance is play and creativity. In the seventh, partnership is central to the whole life. In the eighth, love means depth and shared everything. In the eleventh, partners come from friendship and shared causes. In the twelfth, love is private, sometimes hidden, and often idealised.

Venus retrograde
Venus turns retrograde for about forty days every eighteen months. People born during one — roughly seven percent of the population — tend to have an unconventional relationship with attraction and worth.
Natal Venus retrograde often shows up as taking longer to know what you actually want, valuing yourself by an internal standard rather than a social one, and relationships that do not follow the expected shape. It is not a defect; it is a slower and more deliberate route to the same place.
